Certified Network Defender (CND) is a comprehensive, vendor-neutral network security certification training program offered by EC-Council. It is a skills-based, instructor-led program designed for network administrators, security analysts, and IT professionals responsible for defending enterprise network infrastructure against internal and external threats .
The program is developed based on extensive market research and a job-task analysis aligned with the NICE Cybersecurity Education Framework . It has been mapped to global job roles and Department of Defense (DoD) roles for system and network administrators . Unlike certifications that focus solely on offensive security, CND emphasizes a proactive defense strategy built on four pillars: Protect, Detect, Respond, and Predict . This adaptive approach enables professionals to not only react to attacks but also anticipate and prevent them .
Students learn network defense fundamentals, OSI and TCP/IP models as attack surfaces, network security controls, firewall technologies, IDS/IPS deployment, packet analysis, VPN configuration, wireless security, and more . The course includes extensive hands-on labs in network traffic analysis, log management, SIEM integration, incident response, and vulnerability scanning . By the end of the program, participants gain the fundamental understanding needed to design and implement secure network architectures, develop security policies, and manage incident response plans effectively
